Sagaing is an ancient capital before Ava in 14th
century. It lies a few kilometres southwest of Mandalay,on the
western bank of Ayerwaddy River. It has the largest number
of pagodas and other religious buildings in Myanmar after
Bagan. Kaungmudaw Pagoda is the landmark of the city with
its doom shape architecture. Sagaing Hill is situated 10 km
far from Kaungmudaw Pagoda and one can enjoy the panoramic
view of its surroundings from the summit of the Sagaing
Hill. On the way back to Mandalay, you can see the
silversmith's workshops at the local village near Sagaing. |
